West Ham 8 Newcastle 1 1986
Quite a night with Alvin scoring a hat trick, against 3 different keepers!
Many memories, articles and pictures of the Boys of 86 on that night can be found here on the online museum which becomes more precious as our history changes.

If Roeder had gone in goal we would have found it more difficult. He has broad shoulders remember.

Re: West Ham 8 Newcastle 1 1986
I think that EXTREMELY unlikely.

Though I like the idea of Mrs Martin cooking up the breakfast and asking 'And how did you boys get on last night?. Peter? Alvin?'

Fair play to Beardsley for going in goal. Would have been better if Roeder had but there you go.
Surely they had someone else over 5ft 6?

Why was it awkward? Had Beardsley previously shagged Alvin's wife?

Saw a bit of the Sky coverage today of last nights game and they mentioned that there was an England catch up that week so Beardsley stayed at Alvin Martins house after the game.
Awkward breakfast !!

yeah i was there too

2nd match ever after we'd beat Villa 4-1 (or 2) earlier in the season, seemed like everything happened that night from Alvin Martin scoring a hattrick & Beardo goin in goal.

Thought it was gona be like that every week...huw wrong was I

Was there ... And bloody amazing ... And could easily have been 12 or more!

Respect for those who were there .. Assume the Johnsonesque Juveniles will say we won't get a game like this at the OS ... But probably were still in nappies then (or indeed still are).

Was there that comedy 'twang' sound when he did it? The sound that followed him around and presented itself in his managerial career, mainly during decision-making.

Yes Roeder scored an og, whilst trying to back heel to the keeper.

Seem to remember reading somewhere that John Lyall gave the Captain and Alvin a bollocking afterwards because Ray Stewart was the designated penalty taker and Alvin took it instead!

I was in The Chicken Run in Bizzare circumstances.

Was with a S. African mate who was a Newcastle fan as his gran was from there. We were both on speed which is still to this date the only time I've been off my face at a game.

If okay, thought I would give this a bump as it provides information and facts on this match which will form part of proceedings this evening.

Love that. Some great photo's.

Have to love right at the bottom. Look at Devo in full flow gliding past the two defenders. Love it.

On the way up to this game I told my mate that we'd win 10-0.

Imagine my embarrassment at being so wrong.

That Chelsea game was a real blott on the season, not least because I had to watch from the south bank in the middle of the massive chelsea support who had the whole of that stand

missed the 8-1 much to my annoyance

Losing at home to Chelsea was the killer. Fucking Neil Orr getting out jumped by Pat Nevin.
